Thomas Johnston

160 years ago Thomas Johnston first drove his horse and cart from his father’s farm in Slamannan past the Cow Wynd in Falkirk on his way to market. Four generations on current owner Richard Johnston carries forward the family business.

Over the years the firm has expanded and in addition to the attractive Cow Wynd shop in Falkirk, the company now has a shop in Brightons. Thomas Johnston also own an established butchers, James Aitken in Alloa. The business has been built on strong foundations of providing quality and service.

Quality

Our beef and lamb is the best the market has to offer and is purchased weekly at the Caledonian market in Stirling and our pork and bacon is supplied by Robertson’s Fine Food in Ayrshire. We consider ourselves to be a modern-traditional butchers. Our customers enjoy sausages, puddings and potted meat made by hand, using tried and tested recipes. We also have a large range of contemporary favourites such as stir fries, oven ready meals and the ease of microwavable macaroni, lasagne and stovies.

Shop manager Rod Gillie first worked in the Cow Wynd shop in 1978 and provides a wealth of experience and fantastic service to the people of Falkirk.
